real quick: the 24 hour overnighter
Posted: May 06 2010 4:33 pm
i was challenged to come up with an overnight backpack that could be done in under 24hrs, from the time you leave your home to the time you return.
I wanted to open an invitation to the HAZ crew for this short, 3 mile each way overnight.
start at 4:30 pm on Saturday: Mormon Grove trailhead in the Mazatzals. Hike 3 miles north on the Saddle Mtn. trail to the Thicket Spring tr. intersection - there is a quiet, nice little campsite here right in McFarland canyon. Water should be in the creek.
return sunday when we pack up and move out, to be home by noon.
we should easily be able to hike in the light of day from a 4:30 departure time at Fountain Hills. I have hiked this area once from Mt Peeley to Sunflower and our group commented on what a nice little campsite this made.
any interest?
this trip is also listed on my Arizona Backpacking Club calendar. It would be a great way for some of you Hazzer's to meet some ABC'ers. http://www.meetup.com/Arizona-Backpacki ... _list_sent
