Parker Creek Hike Sunday May 30

It looks like the Pine Canyon hike isn't going to happen on that date due to "Crash" Stiller's injury, so it's time to hit Parker Creek in the Sierra Anchas. Plan on doing grasshopper's default route then up to Aztec Peak and looping back via trail #139 and #140 then back down Parker Creek. I would also love a short side-trip to Workman Creek Falls, but I'll leave that up to others. Plan on leaving the Valley @ 6:00 AM. Pack a lunch.

Jim, I don't think this is physically possible in one daylight day of hiking, even for all you tough HAZ'ers. There is some slow going on these trails due to winter's downfall and spring's overgrowth. I suggest a full platter will be: Parker Creek TR#160 to FR487 to Aztec Peak via Abbey's Way 151 Loop(back to Parker Crk TR#160), then back down #160 to TH Start. Leaving PHX at 6am with Mex Food in Globe, expect to be home between 9-10pm.. :)

Alright, the spoilsport Grasshopper has inserted some sanity into my insanity. That loop sounds better because I'm much more interested in seeing Workman Creek Falls than trails #140 and 139. I'm planning on 15+ miles.

@Jim Lyding
Also, another suggestion would be to forfeit the loop hiking miles part on not so exciting FR487 and just return from Aztec Peak back down Abbey Way TR#151 to FR487 to the Carr TH (Parker Creek TR#160). This will give you more time to hike down FR487 to Workman's Creek Falls area. Also, my estimate of returning back home from this hike (after Mex Food in Globe) at 9-10pm is probably later than will be your actual :)

Workman Falls is kinda... eh. You can basically drive a car to it.

Here's my wishlist for this hike:

Aztek Peak
Maybe the apple orchards at Murphy Ranch
A slot located at 33.812939, -110.888271. Looked pretty neat when I was last there but didn't have time to climb down and explore it.
Upper Devil's Chasm ruins, if they exist.

I'm up for anything though.

I'm obviously not wedded to any particular route. Let's keep discussing possible routes, and try to have something locked-in by Tues/Wed the week before. Let's try for something 12-16 miles

Pumpkining pumpkin! I guess we'll have to settle for Taco Bell instead.
Seriously, any preferences?

May I suggest: Libby's El Rey in Globe (on 60 north side of hwy before Charo's) This place needs a HAZ visit and critique :)

This hike sounds awesome, too... but, alas, I now have a neighborhood meeting that day that I can't miss. Living in a neighborhood full of political activists really has its pro's and con's. I mentioned Aztec Peak to a friend of mine who's a big Abbey fan and she wants to go up there the day before so I think I'll check it out then.

Looks like we have 4 hikers so far. If that's the case then I can drive all of us to the trailhead. Hopefully, more will join up, however.
Looking @ the TrailDex map perhaps our best choice would be to go up Parker Creek trail to the Carr TH then to the Peterson TH then up to Aztec Peak. The either:
1) Come down FR 487 back to the Parker Creek trail then down to the end
or
2) come down from Aztec Peak to FR 487A to the Murphy TH to trail #139 and then to the Moody TH then back to the upper end of the Parker Creek trail
or whatever.
I'm up for anything

I wish I could go on Sunday but I have some stuff going on I can't miss. I'll be up there the day before so maybe my spirit will still linger. I'm taking a bunch of girls I work with, so I'm hoping for a full tour from the ranger! :) I'll hit you guys up for a hike sometime soon, though.

Sounds like a great time. Why is everyone giving you a hard time Joe? Is it becuase you are an Alanis Morrisette fanantic? I'm sorry man. :(
Anyway, I am going to drive up there in my two-seater pick-up, I may be going to Flag after the hike, then again maybe not. Taking the vehicle just in case. It would be nice to meet up with you guys on the way out so I can follow. I'm directionally challenged, which is why hiking is the perfect hobby for me! :)
