I am currently reading a "fictional" book called Eyes of the Superstitions by Kaye Kizziar. I was wondering how many HAZ members have experienced any strange or unexplainable experiences while hiking in the Supes.

I've never hiked in the Supes, so all my strange hiking stories have happened to me someplace else.

Well besides the numerous bigfoot encounters in Rough Canyon and Fish Creek, and the sighting of ET in Trap Canyon, I'd have to say that finding the ghost in the lost gold mine tops the list...

Sometime back in the late 90's my kids and I were someplace near Whiskey Springs doing a lil backpack jaunt. We came across a guy on a horse with a pack mule, he had several weapons on the horse and himself, and there was a pick and shovel on the pack horse. You could tell what he was looking for, so I asked him where he was going. Well he pointed a direction and everything he named was in the opposite direction. Either he was lost or didn't want us to know where he was looking for the lost mine.

Don't lead Halloween hikes, The Lost Dutchman will haunt you on Treasure Loop Trail.

The only strange things I ever come across are running into grizzled old men out in the middle of nowhere with no water, no pack, no nuthin'. This seems to be a common occurrence for me. I'll be miles from any TH, and I'll come across some dude older than dirt just going for a stroll lookin' like he's been there all his life. I love the Supes.

I've also only run into the usual odd collection of people here and there. And I saw this once..

I was walkin down Hiero trail last year and heard something in the distance. I stopped and listened...Coyotes yipping? No way. More like a band of Indians belting out war cries.

I don't know what it was exactly. It does say US Navy on the bottom of it. I've seen that same plane taking off from Falcon Field several times while jogging along the canal.

I love those things. Used to like that program, Black Sheep Squadron, where they used those planes.

If @azbackpackr
The canopy didn't look right.... I'm guessing a T-6 Texan. They were common training aircraft and there are quite a few still flying... Got one in the San Diego area that I see on occasion...

One of the first times I was a Fremont Saddle, three acrobatic aircraft came over, circled Weavers Needle, and proceeded on their way. On my first ridgeline, a news helicopter came right over our heads.
What does anyone know of the strange booming sounds out there? Thunder Gods?

Heavy artillery from the Army National Guard Range south of US 60 and east of the road to takes you to Florence, Az.
The sound of the explosions echo off the mountains and deceive you as to the direction of the actual target sites.
Think very very big

I've heard it, always thought it was prospectors w/ dynamite illegally mining.
