Two National Park Service Rangers Killed in Plane Crash

Page (NAZ Today) – An early morning plane crash has claimed the lives of two National Park Service employees. The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area dispatch center received word that a private plane was overdue and missing. Approximately three hours later searchers located the wreckage of the missing Cessna in the Dixie National Forest in Southern Utah. A ground team was able to reach the wreckage and confirmed that both individuals were deceased.
The occupants of the plane included the pilot Laurie Axelsen, Law Enforcement Ranger from the Dangling Rope Forest District and passenger Brent McGinn, the Glen Canyon’s Chief Law Enforcement Ranger. The two had been on a scouting trip for an upcoming elk hunt.
In addition to county and local resources, National Park Service staff from Grand Canyon National Park are assisting Glen Canyon National Recreation Area with this incident. The investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing.
