Backpacking gifts

Hi all,

My husband and I plan to exchange our Christmas gifts on a backpack this year. Therefore, I need ideas of what I can get him that:
- he doesn't have already (for the sake of not boring you I won't list what he already has)
- is ultra-lightweight
- is small

Any ideas???

Cheers!

A good, pro quality, yo-yo. I always take one on trips. If he doesn't know how to yo-yo, buy a DVD and booklet with instructions. DO NOT get the one with "the brain."

A SPOT 2 Messenger? That's what I'm asking for, especially in light of Joe's disappearance.
Another thought would be a Kindle (or something like) - lighter than a book, but holds hundreds of books. Perfect for those solo nights in camp...

A 22oz bomber of a good, strong winter ale :)

Or maybe a nice pack-sized camera?

(my mind doesn't stray too far from beer or photography)

A brighter headlamp. Great for exploring places that you really shouldn't.

One with a built in SPOT so it can call SAR when you get into that place "you really shouldn't!". :sl:

Without having a clue what he has we are all just throwing darts in the dark.
So for a low end product I'd suggest http://www.amazon.com/Fox-40-Whistle-Cu ... ikearizona

The hot high end product of the season for hikers is http://www.amazon.com/DeLorme-Earthmate ... ikearizona however that could be a poor choice if you are a MAC user

The gift that keeps on giving, when either out on the trail or at home: silence!

Get "Juggling For Dummies" and once you learn how, you don't have to bring anything extra with you on your next trip. Once you can handle stones, you can graduate to pieces of agave stalk! :y:

in the same thread as the previously-mentioned 22 oz bomber (an excellent suggestion, btw)... a light-weight hiking flask? Those are quite nice on longer backpacking trips

Amen. Ask those on Liz's Boucher trip, or my last GG trip, or...
