Well, I just received my REI Dividend check in the mail yesterday and as usual, it's burnin' a hole in my pocket. :twisted: It's not much this year as I've been pretty conservative with new gear purchases but... has anyone used that Black Diamond Moonlight headlight on the trail at night? It has 4 LED's and seems like a nice, lightweight solution. I use those little PhotonLites velcro'd to the underside of my cap bill in camp but they're too easy to outwalk on the trail. Thoughts?

I thought the new 'packaging' of the dividend material was pretty cool...digging the change.

I had used a Petzl headlamp, nice, light one...then I stepped on it and it broke.

Now I use a mini mag light. It won't break. Coupled with the little headband thingy, it works well. There's my 2 cents....

I myself, am putting my $54 along with the 10% off coupon to purchase a Yakima rocket box. Want more room inside the truck, so need to move some gear around...especially for this summer's planned 3000 mile adventure!

I have the Petzl Tikka and its cool. Its the smallest and lightest, but only has three LEDs.

I just used my dividend check to buy that Black Diamond headlamp.
I got it a few days ago so other than walking around in the backyard with it at night it has no real trail time. It does give plenty of light though.
It'd be a bit more comfortable worn on top of a baseball cap turned backwards but wasn't bad without.

Now I'm looking for a red light to wear on the back of my head and use it as a brake light.....don't think I'll need directional signals though. I wanna' be fully equipped.

There were real good reviews somewhere about this headlamp, plus I like to buy things that I can correctly pronounce the names of.

I've been in IL for the last 2 years at college, and I miss the AZ mountains. I'll be back soon.

Once my camp is setup when backpacking, I like using my LED Photon Light instead of my headlamp. If you haven't seen these yet, check them out. I started with a Princeton Tec Pulsar but gave it away to my brother when I got my Photon II. It has a switch to click it on for continuous use.
They're super small (almost the size of a quarter), waterproof, and can be hooked to your pack as a back up, or if you get caught on the trails after dark. I have several but use the white and red lights the most. White is bright enough for night-time trail use if needed. The red is nice because it doesn't mess up your night time vision. There are many other colors and options! Good gift for the gadget people in your family (aka relatives).

Me too I like the Photons. I clip one to the tent to use during the night. You can read outside at night with the red ones and the bugs don't come and bug you. ;) We hiked out of Surprise Valley one night several years ago using the red ones--it would only work for a trail you know well.
