tracks on GoogleEarth

quick question... how come if I view a track in GoogleEarth from Mapquest it shows a nice line if it's a saved track from a hike or one that I've downloaded but if it's from a track I've drawn, it shows it as a sloppy set of points? Is because of missing time data or something else?
