GPSjoe-Joe Domin's GEAR for hiking/backpacking/car camping

GPSjoe's son (Christian) would like to offer his dad's outdoor gear (some used and some almost new) to a deserving organization(s) that would "go to good use" GPSjoe's large inventory of most all types of outdoor gear that one would care to own and use for day hiking, backpacking, and car camping.

I suggested, and Christian agreed, that an excellent place to post this need would be here on our HAZ forum where members would have an opportunity to suggest their recommendations for Christian's further consideration. Your recommendations with any deserving comments and contact information (if know) would be appreciated on or before Fri-3/4/11. :thanx:

That sounds like an excellent idea. There must be a suitable charity. Perhaps one that takes challenged youth or disabled people camping? I'm not familiar with one, but I'd be very surprised if one doesn't exist.

I did a backpack with The Arizona Recreation Center for The Handicapped. ARCH does some camping trips every year and appreciates donations.

I know a scout leader who is always looking for gear for the guys who can't afford any.

Also, there is a group of handicapped hikers getting ready to attempt the AZ Trail, I believe they did Rim to Rim awhile ago and were written up in some press.

If either of these strike an interest, let me know.

I ran into a group of students from Eagle Rock School after dark in the Superstitions a few weeks ago. They were down from Colorado doing wilderness training which is a big part of their curriculum. They are an alternative high school for at risk youth who are actively looking to change their lives around. I checked out their website and it looks like a pretty amazing place! I don't know what their needs are, but they're worth taking a look at. http://www.eaglerockschool.org/home/index.asp
