Sedona Hike Recommendations

Hello Everybody,

I'm looking for suggestions for a good, moderate hike in the 5-10 mile range up in red rock country. I'll be taking my dad who's 61 so we're looking for something that's not too much of a butt-kicker. No offense to those of you over 60 but dad's from the midwest and doesn't get to do this stuff every weekend. He did, however, make it up Humphrey's last season but he hasn't "trained" this year so I need to take it easy on him.

I'm particularly looking for something that is remote enough so that we won't have to deal with crowds on the trail. 4x4 approach is fine. We'd also like to have some great scenery (I know that's a gimme in Sedona but some places are better than others). I just bought a killer new camera so I promise to post some pics of our adventure.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I haven't hiked a lot of places in the Sedona area, but from what I have hiked I can reccomend three;
West Fork is one of the best hikes in the state (in my book), but usually very crowded.
The Vultee arch trail Is also very nice, and not crowded. The drive in is nice too (at least high clearance).
If you're looking to go off the beaten path, you can hike Wet Beaver Creek just outside of Sedona. Also a very nice area and not crowded at all.

There's also several trails off schnebly hill road that I'm sure would be nice. I haven't hiked much up there, but the road makes for a very nice "scenic route" back to I17.

We just got back from Sedona about 10 minutes ago, went up Sunday afternoon. We hiked Broken Arrow yesterday. I would recommend that one highly, for the scnery alone. I'd also recommend my personal Sedona favorite, Secret Canyon.

Yup. That gets my vote too. There are plenty of potential fall color tree species in there, but it remains to be seen if they'll color up this fall.
