Semi-retiring my old Olympus C-765

This little camera was "top of the line" back in the 2005 when I bought it and still takes great pictures but after my last trip to Chaco, I really want something better. Have been lusting after an SLR for 3 years now and may take that plunge soon. Looking at the Olympus and Canon SLRs. I love Olympus and have had great luck with my old Camedia C-765 (4 megapixel!!) but am also seriously considering a switch to Canon....reason being that I have lenses (50mm wide angle and a 100-400mm zoom) from an old 35mm film Canon AE-1 that I think will fit the SLR with an adapter. Anyone have any experience with using the old lenses with the SLRs? Also....as a side note, I also did some research on the Olympus PEN E-PL2.
Anyone with some expertise and reviews on what they are using and what they like/unlike about it is appreciated. If you are selling or know of anyone who is selling "gently used" SLR equipment please let me know.
My little Olympus has been through the ringer...dropped several times and even dunked in the Escalante River last year and it STILL keeps going. I'm keeping it as my backpacking camera.
Thanks in advance!
Trish

I thought your recent photos looked mighty fine. Yet what is life without doing things you desire

I'm not a Canon shooter, but the dSLRs' autofocus won't work on the old lenses. I'm not sure about any other issues. We need some Canon shooters to weigh in.

Well, thanks much Joe.......I shoot everything on manual so up my sun shots to +8.0 and -.03 on my settings. I find if I shoot on AUTO everything gets washed out.
I didn't say I had to have a new camera but that I was
LUSTING after one ;)

You'll lose a lot of the advanced functionality of the newer cameras & lenses if you try to use the older lenses. I too have an AE-1 and was thinking of going Canon with a new SLR, but the price and bad reviews of performance with the adapters and older lenses made me think otherwise.
I bought the Nikon D3100 and love it. The only drawback is the 1080P video gets this wavy effect (common in SLRs?), but I bought it for stills not videos.

Well, I must have been very good this year because Santa left me a brandy new Olympus SZ-10 under the tree. I am officially out of the "4 megapixel" crowd!

YEAH! I know, it's a PAS but has some pretty nice features with an 18X optical zoom and 5X digital zoom. I'm gonna bring both my old camera and new camera on Monday's hike to see the difference between the two.

Can you say Canon T3i???
I'm so excited
YAY....I got a great package deal on this 18 megapixel DSLR with 4 lenses and various filters. It's a great addition to my little Olympus! NOW I really have to get out and shoot something. Only problem is I love my old Olympus Camedia 765/4 megapixel.........that little camera has been through sandstorms, snowstorms, thunderstorms, hail, rain, dropped numerous times on the trail, banged against rocks and thoroughly dunked in the Escalante River. It's like a Timex! Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I think I'll keep it as my freshman foray into photography.
Maybe y'all will see some "up and coming" photos from me this year
