The first annual "Fire on the Rim" mountain bike race will be held August 6th in Pine. Although there will be nationally-ranked riders in the open division, there are various divisions, so come to race or merely to watch. (15, 30 & 45 mile options) http://fireontherim.com/default.aspx

If you are interested in volunteering at this event, please email Tamara @ rimsidegrill@rimsidegrill-dot-com.
With luck it will rain before the race which will reopen the Tonto Forest for hiking, too!

Special note: As an added benefit to being a HAZ subscriber (like there are not enough benefits already), print the following coupon for $1.00 off craft beers on this race weekend at the Rimside Grill. (Yes - Old Monkeyshine IS included)
Rimside Grill is at the extreme south end of Pine, just north of the Pine trailhead turn-off but on the west side of the highway.

Oh! That sounds fun! Too bad I will be rafting in Grand Canyon on that date. Oh, wait, NOT too bad, huh? ;) Anyway, I saved the page. Might do it next year.

"Fire on the Rim"

Maybe a good sponsorship opportunity for Preparation H?

Yes, it is close to the Pine (highline) trailhead and tasted pretty good after doing the Highline!

Just a reminder to sign up - the trail has been well-worked & is free of debris. The weather has been wonderful, come on UP!

Heard from some of my friends who stated they had a good time at this event and looking forward again next year.

Yep - 88 riders in total - thankfully no major carnage.
Participation was split in about thirds for the 15. 30 & 45 mile rides.
We're working on the course for next year (part will follow the soon-to-be-re-routed Pine Trail), it will be re-routed some but still keep its challenge.
Thanks to anyone who supported the event! If you missed THIS year's event we hope to see you next year.
