Lions & Tigers & ...Rattlesnakes? (Devil's Chasm)

I've seen the report that Devil's Chasm has lots of rattlers in the summer, and I notice there are no triplogs for June through September. Is that because it's pumpkin hot there in the summer, or is it just that no one logs their summer hikes there?

We're thinking of car camping somewhere near the base of Devil's Chasm and doing a bit of hiking into it over Labor Day. Any advice (such as "Dont do it you fool!") would be greatly appreciated. Recommended camping spots, temps, etc...

Thanks!!
Paul

Never hiked it in the summer. Hiked Cold Springs last summer and it was hot. There is nice campsite at the trail head where I have seen and run into numerous people camping. I also saw 2 large Mountain lions in '06 about 50-100' feet from the campsites on the way in to another hike. A couple hours later after the hike on the way out there were cattle in the same spot which might explain the size of the lions. :o Either way you may be sharing your space with some type of 4 legged creature. :scared: :D.

You can add bears too. I saw one near the trailhead for Cold Springs ruin (just up the road from Devil's Chasm) while car camping about 3 years ago. Also ran into a very angry rattler along the trail.
