Hi, am new to the site, forum, and to hiking in the Phoenix area. Is there anywhere that I can find an overlay of all of the trails for South Mountain, Piestewa Peak, Camelback, Etc? I would like to plan some quick morning hikes and would like to hike up one way and use a different trail to get back. Any suggestions? I would love to do some sunrise hikes. Thanks for your time.

Phoenix Preserves - Piestewa
White Tanks
South Mountain
The Mormon Trail at South Mountain is a good morning hike for new comers. It draws you in as you go up.

You don't say where you live. Joe has some great info for the McDowells by Scottsdale, the White Tanks in the West Valley, the Superstitions in the East Valley, the Mazatzals in the Northeast Valley, the San Francisco Peaks in the Far north Valley.

Actually just about anywhere you can imagine in AZ. Welcome and enjoy

Oh yeah, and he has some cool smilies

Thanks for the reply. Is there a website where I can see all of the trails of South Mountain at once so I can plan an "up and back" trip using different trails?

Joe posted a link to a map for you on this thread. This link:
http://hikearizona.com/map.php?X=4
Then each of the trails on that map should have a description in the alphabetical listings.

There's some nice pdfs in the Maricopa and Phoenix parks sites. Google "Phoenix parks map" or "south mountain map". Same for the other areas in Phoenix ...

what kingsnake said
go here:
http://phoenix.gov/recreation/rec/parks ... index.html
then choose the park you want and print the map from there

And if you want to hike in the Supes on a weekend give me a shout (once the temps drop). There are some terrific hikes out there and only a 30 min drive from Phoenix.

Thank you everyone for your help, it's awesome and I will be starting to hike very very soon. Trishness, I'll let you know about the Superstitions, I'm in South Scottsdale so it's not too far for me. Want to do some South Mountain hikes and see about where my skill level lies first, but then I'll give you a shout. Thanks to Joe for all of the info and links and everyone else that posted replies. Will send some pics your way and try to figure out the triplog thing, thank you.

Ok, I'm going to do my inaugural metro hike at South Mountain, Friday Sept. 30 at 6:00 A.M. I'm going to do Mormon Trail to National Trail to Hidden Valley and back to Mormon Trail. Will be at Mormon TH at 6:00 A.M. if anyone wants to join me. I'd rather not hike alone, but I will. This will be a quick hike, I want to see what my skill level is and also my endurance since I am just getting over a cold. Plus it's supposed to be 105 again. September has not been kind.
