As I just posted in Pam's Picketpost 1/1/12 event I have to work that day so won't make that one.

But as close as I was on my 2nd attempt from the east (a measly 80' short!!) I'm determined to complete this task by the end of 2011.

So... I'm planning on hiking Picketpost from the west TH on Sunday 12/25 to do a thorough recon of the upper reaches of the eastern face. Hopefully I'll find a route and possibly even try it just to my high point. If it looks good, I'll plan on the 3rd and final attempt 12/26 or 12/27.

Date: 12/25/11 (If you'd rather hike than wallow around among opened presents on Christmas Day this is for you!)
Time: Leaving Recker/Brown area of E Mesa by 7:30 am.
Transportation: I can take easily take three along. (Four if the three in back are ok with being cozy.)

This hike won't be happening tomorrow because I got off work early today was able to get out there and check it out. Although John (JuanJaimieiii) already had an 18 mile roundtrip hike to Reavis Ranch under his belt for the day, he said he'd meet me somewhere along the trail. I started about 25 minutes ahead of him but I only waited about 10 minutes for him near the mailbox. We then headed over to a tall rock cairn near the white horseshoe cross and took a look down. John liked what he saw and took off down the east side. I waited until he was a few hundred feet down (past my high point from the bottom a few days ago) then I headed back to the TH while he continued all the way down. Once back at the trail head I drove to Superior and out Telegraph Canyon Road where I met him a few miles out.

So not only did John prove the eastern approach is doable, I have to give him credit for the first trip up the west side, over the top and back down the east side. Well done John!

Now all we have to do is do it from east to west. Soon....
