I like to go Geocaching. http://www.geocaching.com
I'm not one of those controversial geocachers, I'm considerate.

Anyway, I went to the Sheeps Bridge geocache today and wanted to look for the hot spring, but I can never find it. I go scrounging out in this area from time to time and still can't find that spring. Does anyone know exactly how I can get to it?

thanx

If you are refering to the hot spring as depicted in the book Touring Arizona Hot Springs, it was taken out by a flood, though restored several times it was located in the weeds, west bank of the river upstream from the bridge. There or was a hot spring seep located downstream from the bridge west bank.

West Bank?

This is going to sound stupid, but which side is the west bank? I came in from Cave Creek and went through Seven Springs, Tangle Creek etc to get there. I get a turned around as it looked like the river runs east to west and therefore there is a north or south side to the river.

thanks

The route you described is the west side of the river (yes there is a bend in the river at this location), so lets call it the north side is the location for the hot springs. I just came back from a camping and hiking I will try to locate my pictures of the spring. If you are in that area, also explore Tangle and Red Creek.

Just a note here: Have an old book that describes a route to Sheep Bridge from the south through the Horseshoe Lake area. Tried it and couldn't get through the dam area. I think they have since fenced off or closed some of the roads in that area.

On the west side of river take the trail from the bridge abutment down to the water and follow the trail through the bamboo upsteam. Then soak your cares away.
Enjoy,

The west side is on the seven springs side.

Thanks you guys. I started going through the bamboo "tunnels" but got nervous and headed back. I guess I was just right about there.

You use to be able to cross the river below Horseshoe dam at a ford, but the rancher on the east bank will not allow you to cross his property after crossing the river. You could also drive across the base of the dam, (there is an access road) however SRP will not allow it and have placed a gate though the Tonto Forest management plan allowed access.

Watch out for all of the crazy frogs. Last time I was there they kept me up all night!
