Sigh. Hairdos. They never do get it right. Glad the guy got some help pretty quick.

I will never second guess the rescue teams, but I might second guess the reporting. Seems like there should be more than a leg injury involved to stay overnight, or perhaps he tried to get up on the ridge-line. I haven't yet hiked the Wind Cave trail but I know it isn't that long.

Went on Sat. to hike that trail with my son. Bought a Tonto pass in town( opps) ended up hiking by Lonely Mountain instead.

Sounds like it was a good thing his cell phone worked, and according to this article, he didn't call Rescue. His friends did...

We're your friends. We would each grab you under an arm and drag you down hill on your butt. You are out of luck if we have to drag you uphill. We would help you write a new will.

Ouch! I still have spine in my butt from taking closeups of Christmas Cholla in the Superstitions in November.

You were taking cholla closeups with your butt?

The natural counterweight is an easy target when trying to isolate a branch. Unfortunately, the best place for all the other branches was behind me.
