Have the good fortune to be in Arizona (land in Phoenix) Nov 2 to 4 and looking for hikers interested in back country / backpack trip for approx. 3 days. Open to ideas, prefer desert / warm concept (we have frost on the pumpkin these mornings).

Welcome to HAZ - even if it is for a vacation.
Hang in there for a bit and keep checking in - I'm sure there are some interested parties willing to show off our beautiful state.

Thanks for the response
Re: Superstitions
Would you know - where is the best place to pick up camping gear - maps, store fuel etc.
enroute airport to Superstitions? Any info re: water - ranger station indicates water at
Charlebois spring and second water? Where would be the best place to get water before
starting to hike. Is camping allowed at Peralta trail head? And the most critical - any camp
sites that would have the end of trip/back to civilization shower facilities?
Thanks

Popular outdoor outfitters is a good and rather inexpensive place to pickup camping items.

There are areas around peralta to camp. I would check with the ranger station on that one.
Shower facilities..hmmm not sure on that one. (motel?)

Hi Dale,
I'm surprised you haven't heard more out of this group, we're usually alot more vocal. I'm not an overnite camper/hiker, more of just a day hiker. But if I were I would be headed for Reavis Ranch. Check it out here
http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?TN=R ... 09%20North . Also, I would PM Nighthiker who I'm sure would have some great suggestions for you.
I can help you with the shopping tho. EVERYTHING you would need would be in the Power Rd/Superstition Fwy. area. If your coming from the airport headed to the Superstitions, more than likely you'd be on the Superstition Fwy. (Hwy 60). Exit on Power Rd. go right (South) to Popular Outdoor Outfitters as Tracker suggested. It sits on the left (East) shortly after you exit the Fwy. Or when exiting the Fwy. go left (North), turn right at first signal after Fwy and see Sports Authority on your left. OR my favorite, WalMart on Superstitions Blvd. - this exit is BEFORE the Power Rd Exit, go left when exiting Fwy and you'll see WalMart in a minute. This area is all connected, feel free to drive all around the area, get all your supplies then jump back on the Fwy. to get to the Superstitions. Just remember your in Snowbird country so watch out for them (retired folks).
As far as the shower, I would just get a room when your done. To my knowledge AZ campsites rarely have showers unlike the other 49 states.
Most of all, enjoy your trip ~ I'm sure you will.

REI in Tempe is just off the same freeway also. Rather than mess you up with indecipherable directions, look them up on Mapquest.

To the best of my knowledge (its been awhile since I was out there) Peralta TH does not have water available, so you'll need to buy some from a gas station on your way out of town.
