MARCH 10th - 12 Moderate/Tough Miles

Join our group of hearty adventurers on a dayhike across the tops of the Superstition mountains!

we will use car shuttles to drop our group at Carney Springs trailhead by 8 am, so we can get an early start on a long day. this is a strenuous hike, about 12 miles ("supes miles" are regular miles, squared.) and tough conditions will require each attendee to be skilled in scrambling, navigation, and be well equipped with the 10 essentials of hiking.

after this wonderful exploration of the top of the superstion ridge we will end with a descent into Siphon Draw and out to our waiting vehicles. dinner/beverages at the Handlebar Inn will be had by all!

over the past few months my schedule is full and i havent so much as gotten any dayhikes in, much less backpacks. so this old squirrel is out of shape (unless round is a shape) so this wont be a death march. 2 mph is good enough..

Hey, if y'all want some help with the shuttle I can probably swing that next weekend. Having been up both Flatiron and Superstition Peak numerous times I really have no desire to do the ridgeline but will offer to shuttle your group so YOU can do it. I could meet you at LDSP early and drive you over to Carney...that way you don't have to do that long drive (25+ miles) around back to Carney after 12 grueling miles. Just ask that you give me gas money and a cold beer......OH WAIT......it's going to be 7AM so maybe I better wait on that beer :--:

I can fit 4 comfortably in my X-Terra, 5 if y'all really like each other and throw two small people in the cargo area (is that legal?) with the packs.

Let me know

Trish

so lets finalize this planning... 7:30 am sharp at LDSP, we will have my vehicle, with room for 3 more as a shuttle to start the hike at Carney. So far, this looks like most of us can take advantage of trail angel Trish's kind offer.
now to just get Snakemarks to do the same, we wont need shuttles at all!

*disclaimer: i am awaiting to be called to work from the local IBEW (electrician's Union) and may have to work saturday. IF this schedule does interfere with my hike, would anyone be opposed to re-schedule to the following Sunday (the 11th)?
if not, are you guys confident about making this hike without me? (dont follow me, im lost, too) :sl:

I'll plan on being at LDSP by 7:30 AM, Siphon Draw parking area on Saturday to help with the shuttle and will keep an eye on this thread throughout the week to see if anything has changed. Can't help y'all on Sunday AM :sorrry:

Hi,

My daughter and I have been interested in the Ridgeline for some time. We've done close to 175 mi since Havasupai at the end of Sept. I'm a plodder, so your 2 mph is to my liking. My daughter is a mountain goat (she did the Phx summit challenge) and we did the Flatiron and Weaver's Needle loop not too long ago. I'll have to find out if my daughter is in shape to make the hike. She had her purse stolen last week and was knocked to the ground coming out of a client's office, so she was a little beat up. Even if she can't come with her friend, I may still desire to go and then I'll go with her another time. I have an F-150 and if alone can take some folks in the cab. Bit cool in the morning to ferry folks in the bed. I'm assuming folks will meet up outside the gate and then take in one or two vehicles.

I'm thinking we should meet up at the Mining Camp Restaurant parking lot (FREE) as opposed to the Lost Dutchman State Park?

I actually think I'll be camping at Carney on Friday night (westsider here who doesn't particularly want to make the drive Sat morning), so I would be there and ready at 8AM. If I need to, I'll hang off the back bumper of someone's car for a ride back to my truck after the hike- I'm pretty low-maintenance ;) .

If I don't end up camping, I'll be at Mining Camp at 7:30AM. Mike, I've got your number, so I'll let you know by tomorrow night where to expect me.

Oh, and I'm stoked to finally check out the Handlebar! :y:

Did I see my name in here somewhere?
Mike, if you needed help with a shuttle, you should have PM'd me. I hardly ever read this stuff (I stay away from the forum cuz I get in too many fights :guilty: ).

Anyway... I can assist (if you ask me nice ;) ). I can take 4 passengers + gear.
Let me know. :)
