Arizona House Bill 2549 - Oh Pumpkin!!

Almost everything I do is to annoy someone. I think they targeted me :A1:
"Arizona House Bill 2549, which is now on Gov. Jan Brewer’s desk for signature, was created to counter bullying and stalking. The law would make it a crime to use any electronic or digital device to communicate using “obscene, lewd or profane language” or to suggest a lewd or lascivious act, if done with the intent to “terrify, intimidate, threaten, harass, annoy or offend.”
…H.B. 2549 “would apply to the Internet as a whole, thus criminalizing all manner of writing, cartoons, and other protected material the state finds offensive or annoying,” Media Coalition says on its website — at least for now, until what it says is found to be offensive or annoying by those in Arizona.

No kidding! Thankfully we have the pumpkin filter, or I'd really be in some deep feces.

AZ maintains its vise-like grip on the nuttiest legislature crown.

I've heard a few people here in California claim that we (CA) have the worst legislature in the nation. They have no idea. Doesn't my home state have more pressing matters than guns in bars, human-animal hybrids, and now this? Hopefully Gov. Brewer will veto this because the courts will just toss this out after the state spends a bunch of money defending it.

People do not have the right to NOT be offended. Yes some people get out of hand with lewd comments and all, but this could go too far. The also has better areas to spend tax dollars then on taking this through the court system.

My wife thinks I am one of them. (Even though my comments are directed at Food Network personalities ...

This is an old thread, from a year and a half ago. Did the bill pass? I never paid much attention.

Passed and is now law. ARS 13-2916
http://www.azleg.gov/ars/13/02916.htm I can't stalk you or offend you electronically.

OH PUMPKIN. Not that I would ever want to since you are such a nice person, but there are evil people out there that I would gladly offend.

Wasn't this law about teenagers and teenage-like adults harassing each other? Something to do with a 13 y/o girl, facebook harassment, and suicide?

That may have been the initial impetus for this law, but you can read the language of the statute, it is much broader than teenagers. It is a misdemeanor but it could be used in divorce cases and messy breakups to throw someone into jail for a night.
