Hi all, I am a long way from you in Arizona, I am way way way down in Australia. I was wondering if anyone may be able to point me in the right direction with a problem I am experiencing. I have a Garmin Nuvi 760 with the Australian \ New Zealand maps installed and also the Bluechart Pacific marine map, the OzTopo maps and Tracks For Australia maps. I have Mapsource on my laptop and have these maps on it and they work fine. I have recently installed Mapsource Portable on a flash drive so I can take it where I go and can view it on someones elses computer, for example a public one where Mapsource would not be installed. I know it can be done as I have done it a while back but for the life of me I can't remember what I did to get it working. The portable Mapsource runs fine from the flash drive but I cant get my maps on to it. Any help , tips or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thank you and kind regards .... Sam.

The licenses on more recent versions of some Garmin map types are tied to a particular GPS unit and the maps generally won't transfer to anything else. I'm not sure from your description whether this is the problem, especially since you have done this before. Did you do it with this particular version of maps?

Thanks for your reply. I am using the same maps as before and the same gps unit, the only difference is I am using a new computer with Windows 7 installed against Windows xp on my old one.

With Win 7, you may need to run the program as Administrator to get it to work properly... As I don't have the program at the moment, I'm just guessing. In most instances, if you right click the program you're trying to run, a list pops up with one of the choices being: Run as Administrator. Choose that and see if it works.
I'll see if I can find the program and load it on my machine to give it a whirl. Might be useful if I can't get my laptop to be less than dysfunctional on the upcoming GC trip...

I have tried running as administrator, the mapsource is running fine from my flash drive however the maps just don't want to open for me. I have downloaded the portable mapsource from here
http://gpsunderground.com/forum/garmin- ... table.html and followed the instructions there so was maybe wondering if I may need to change the format of my map? This is just a stab in the dark as nothing else seems to work at the moment.

What I did not mention is that when I have the flash drive plugged into the laptop and run portable mapsource from there all my maps show up and open OK but when I try it from a computer that has no mapsource or maps nothing shows up. I assume by that that even when the portable version is going that it checks and reads from my hard drive. It should be easy but maybe I am going in circles and confusing myself the more I try.
