Memorials on Public Land

moved from a specific memorial topic

More and more people are disposing of their loved one's remains this way and often install memorials as well. Similiar to what they do along the highways where people have lost their lives.

I do not agree with it and sometime in the future the various land agencies may push to create laws against it.
Just my :M2C: on the subject....

Scattering ashes is one thing, making memorials is another. The pictures, notes, plastic flowers, etc. are litter in my opinion. I think they should scatter some ashes in the person's favorite place then put the rest in a proper place (on the mantel, in a crypt, etc) and keep the notes, flowers, and pictures there.

I've seen a couple of these along trails. I understand why people view it as litter.. I usually just snap a quick photo and move on.

Memorials on public land are stupid. I don't need to be reminded that someone died where I just passed. I want to enjoy my day and not be saddened to read that some killed somehow. It seems almost selfish to set claim a tiny space for your memorial assuming that everyone needs to see it. They're eye sores to me, but I normally just ignore them.

Just saw one today and thought of this thread. This one was on FS-managed public land on Mt Lemmon. I also vote no on these, they don't belong there. Scatter my ashes but let me decompose into the land without public notice.
