FR 214a to WCC Trail #17

Hey all,

Has anyone been to the upstream trailhead of West Clear Trail #17 recently? Not Bull Pen Ranch, but the trailhead at the upstream, northern terminus of the trail.

I'm curious of the condition of the road- particularly fr 214a. It appears as if fr618 and fr214 are probably fine for most vehicles. I'm trying to get an idea of how far we may have to hike the road to the TH if we don't have 4wd.

Any info on the condition of the trail to the rim would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

For the record, the FS references the northern terminus of trail #17 as the "Bald Hill" trailhead. It is only marked by a rock cairn at the end of the road.

And I haven't driven that road, but agree with your assessment. From the map and FS description, it seems like you should be able to make it at least up to the last mile in any rental car. :D

isnt that the Maiden Falls trail? I've been there, dont take a car. i would do it in a high clearance, meaning a large truck or SUV and 4x4 is not mandatory, but that is what i'd use. 214A is nothing but a giant boulder (think, watermelon sized, and larger) hop.

Yup, Maiden Falls. Thanks for the replies! We were able to park right near the junction of 214 and 214a and hike the easy mile of dirt road to the trailhead. Washboard and a couple boulders sticking up to navigate around, but for the most part any vehicle can make it that far.
