Does your heel hurt first thing when you get out of bed in the morning for the first few steps? You might have plantar fasciitis. Orthotics would solve that problem, although it takes some time.

pretty sure it's not plantar fasciiitis
more toward the achilles than the arch, bottom left

It could still be even with achilles pain. I had some achilles pain from time to time. The tendon gets frayed right where it connects to your heel, so that's why you get heel pain.
The big telltale symptom is if it hurts for your first few steps in the morning when you wake up. If you have that, then its likely PF.

Jess P. Price, D.P.M.
Podiatric Medicine
7331 E. Osborn Dr. Suite 230
Scottsdale, AZ 85251
(480) 292-9604
Have taken my father to see him several times in the last year, including yesterday.... Really like him. He seems to know his stuff, and he really is very easy to talk to and takes the time to talk to you and answer your questions. And, thank god, he has a very good sense of humor and if you are frank with him, he will be frank with you....
He's right across from Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn....so he's close.

Medscape Reference recently posted a series of descriptive slides to assist in diagnosing 'Overuse Injuries of the Lower Extremities: Keys to Diagnosis' Link would not copy so do a search on title. You may be required to sign-up as a member (no cost). Might help you put a name to your particular injury.

Kelly, I worked for an orthopedic practice for 9 years and we always referred our foot and ankle patients to East Valley Foot and Ankle Specialists....they have offices in Gilbert, Mesa and Scottsdale. They also have made Phoenix Magazines Top Docs

I have ongoing ankle issues and see Dr. Doug Griffin. I would recommend this practice (and that's from personal experience)

@Trishness
Then we are in agreement, as Dr. Price in Scottsdale is part of that practice....

Never seen Dr. Price but I adore Dr. Griffin (and he's a hiker too!)

thanks for weighing in, y'all
i had a couple of helpful private messages, too
the scottsdale location of EVFAS is nearby, and if one of the podiatrists is a hiker, even better
this injury is really cramping my style
fortunately, it doesn't bother me to bike or climb

Never doubt the Stillernator. He knows his aches & pains - and he Stillernate's his way right through them

I just keep going like the Terminator (complete with the limp and crazy look on my face), hence the name change.
