For anyone interested in the old graffiti covered dragway we all drive by so often, here's a neat little article the New Times just put out:

My dad had a friend who used to race his ford pinto there. I never got to go. Thanks for the link

I saw the title of this thread, and assumed it referred to Highway 87 itself ...

When I was a kid that was the place to be, Funny cars, The Little Red Wagon wheelie truck and a dragster with the engine in the rear....WOW!
The rear engine dragster of course as everyone knew would be a short lived fad.
Also to give you an idea how much the valley has grown and how quiet it was. Once before the races ended my dad drove a friend of mine home who lived on Shea about where Hayden is.
Standing in the front yard of their remote desert home, since Shea didn't go to Beeline yet for a few more years, we could actually hear the dragsters.
Ten miles away as the crow flies.

Wow no kidding the guy at 5:06 in the lower left with white shirt and long hair looks exactly like me in 74.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

My Dad used to Drag there in the early 70s a 57 Chevy... had won lots of trophies for the service station that he worked at in Prescott.. I grew up at the drag tracks in the phx area...playing barbies on the trailer that hauled the Hot Rod to the races riding in the truck from phx to Prescott...
