Anybody see the piece on kpho channel 5 about a proposed stupid hiker award? Those who attempt to hike the local mtn trails and need to be rescued because of lack of preparedness would be fined. Sounds like a good way to offset some of the huge costs associated with these rescues. I couldn't find a link on their web site.

The best part is it wouldn't be seasonal like the monsoon floods.

Unfortunately, HAZ has a rule about disparaging people who do ... uhm ... suboptimally intelligent outdoor acts. So, I'll just respond to some other thread ...

As the video stated, the hotels should be more involved and recommend the proper equipment and explain the potential dangers. That same message should be conveyed to the Lost Dutchman State Park who pass out quickie maps to the Flatiron.

This is why we haven't hiked Camelback in 20 years. It seems to be the most dangerous place to hike in the state.
I didn't live this long by making stupid decisions, which is why I chose motorcycle racing and smoking... ;)

It'd be nice if people started to figure out that hiking up squaw or camelback or even holbert?! in flip flops at noon in august with a pepsi in one hand a cigarette in the other is NOT a clever idea...oh crap, they'll never figure that out. I'm sure we've all seen that...anyone remember the chick going up Squaw in stillettos two years ago that rolled her ankle?!

<--for humanity.
