Johnny Ringo grave and marker

I was poking around on a historical whim and discovered that I once passed within a hundred yards of a spot in the Chiricahuas where Johnny Ringo was found dead and was subsequently buried. There is (or was) a plaque there. Many HAZers have been just as close as I was. Has anyone seen it?

Many times I have taken people there.

@RWStorm Is it really quite close to the road, just up the wash? I wandered up a wash right near there, but it was quite a while back and I don't know if it was the same one.

It is right on the road to West Turkey Creek. At the Sanders Ranch, north side of the road, just before the ranch as headed in from west. Marked.

Thanks, I'll have to check for it the next time I'm out that way.

@Sredfield The coordinates I found are pretty close to there, but not exactly. Still, how many graves could there be at near there? 31°51′49″N 109°20′16″W (N31.86361 W109.33778)

If you look at Cal Topo or My Topo, it is just east of the turnoff to Sunglow, where the road straightens out again and just before you get to Sanders Ranch. On the north side of road (think there is a pullout there now). There is a gate you go through and short walk in to the spot. (It is marked as "grave" on the topo).

From Bob Boze Bell's book "Wyatt Earp"...
The Ringo Mystery July 13,1882.
Several months after the Earps left Arizona, the cow-boy community is shocked by the death of Johnny Ringo.
Not far from Rustler's Park, Ringo's body is found sitting in the center of five black jack oaks growing up in a semi-circle from on root. His watch is still running and his revolver is caught in the chain with only one shot discharged from it. He has a bullet hole in the head with a piece of scalp missing. His boots are gone and he has evidently taken off his undershirt, torn it in two and wrapped it around his feet.
Buckskin Frank Leslie tries to take credit for Ringo's death. Some think Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday came all the way from Colorado to do it.
Ringo's death is officially listed as a suicide and remains one of the stranger mysteries of the West.

Today on High Chaparral episode Shadows of the Wind, Johnny Ringo showed up. Once again the filming is all done in Arizona. I couldn't decipher where on this episode but in a real pretty rock area.

I've been there. It was my impression the story of the man is not quite clear so it was an interesting to see the High Chaparral spin.

First, I would like to think Doc Holiday did in Johnny Ringo, just like in the movie. :)

Now, I am not sure where the location of this grave is from the dialog up above. Say I am in US-10 east of Tucson, then where do I go to find this place where Johnny Ringo lies in the dust?

Joe, pretty good directions. I think I am going to take a drive out that way before Xmas. Maybe. Stuff is starting to pile up right now.

But I will get out there soon.
