No map, no gear, but we DO have a cell phone... "I know....Let's get someone to deliver us some GEAR".......

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- Crews rescued two college students who were stranded on Humphreys Peak in northern Arizona during a hike.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says the two Northern Arizona University students were rescued at 11,750 feet Sunday night after they encountered high winds that prompted them to leave the trail they were on.

The hikers didn't have sufficient clothing or equipment for the hike.

Along the way, the hikers encountered deep snow and became disoriented, so they called 911 on a cell phone.

A helicopter that was unable to land because of high winds had instead dropped bags of warm clothes, food and water to the pair.

Crews on the ground then managed to reach the two students.

The students refused medical treatment.

I'm glad they didn't come to harm, and I hope the lesson they learned is not that free gear is just a phone call away.

I know one of the rescuers - she spent 20 hours on three SAR missions in two days.

They found the woman....Quoted from my Facebook post from SAR....
One of our teams found the missing woman last night. She was wet, cold, and weak. She was flown out of the field to an awaiting ambulance and transported to a hospital to be treated for hypothermia. Strong work team!
