Woton's Throne

OK - I have a feeling that Joe is gonna toss me from the board for asking this BUT - in a previous thread inquiring about some dayhikes from PR AL_Hikes AZ mention attempting Wonton's. I am thinking he said that in jest to pick on me.
Has anyone on the board ever attempted this? Or is this one that a select few have done and they ain't on this board. The triplog is blank and I would think that if anyone did bag this they would logged it.
Attempts? Successes???
Thanks....enjoy the weekend!!

Not picking on you, just trying to inspire you and give you a goal to shoot for. If I weren't so old, I would try it. There is a sporty pitch through the Redwall.

It's been done before if that's what you mean. But not by any regular HAZ users. The list probably isn't very long.
Are you familiar with Harvey Butchart? If not, start there.

Read the book Grand Obsession by Elliot Butler & Tom Myers. There is a lot of good info about Wotans. Good luck!

I have it as 2 rappels, reportedly not difficult. Looks like a nice fall dayhike with a little ropework.

HAZ member mikehikes has almost certainly done it. Send him a pm if you want info. He rarely stops by HAZ, but he'll answer reasonable questions. But really, you should get some off-trail hikes under your belt, and some backpacking and a lot of other stuff before you start talking about Wotan's Throne. It's a bit early in the game for that, in my opinion.

I am 51 - how old is too old??? Harvey wasn't exactly a young buck when he was doing alot of his hiking!!

I hold the books on Harvey TOTALLY responsible for my new found addiction to the Canyon!!! I have read several of them. Would have loved to have shook his hand.
I have read this! Good one! Thanks!! But I will not be attempting this anytime soon....would love too but as Liz says I need to crawl before I walk and walk before I run. I think I have some intermediate crawling under my belt - Cheops will give me some walking - anything with ropes is gonna be a WHOLE new adventure to me!!!

TOTALLY AGREE!!!
Right now the plan is to try Cheops Pyramid and maybe - big maybe the Plateau......having seen the video makes it a lil easier but I dunno....I wouldn't have Joe, Bob, JJ or Denny to help me!!!!
