Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls

I happened to catch this last nite though it normally runs on Mondays on NBC. I like watching these types of shows to see if I can learn anything though I could do without the drama but I'm afraid it goes with the ratings territory apparently. Anyway Bear suggested a person (if it's cold) run in place and move your arms around to warm yourself up a bit before climbing in your sleeping bag. I think I will give that a shot. Someone here may have suggested that at one time or another but I missed it.
And though some of the other stuff may be obvious to lots of you, it's not to me and many others that may get out there in the wilderness.
I'll be curious, per one of the previews, why they leave someone behind and Bear admonishes them for it.

Another that works very well for me is doing crunches inside my bag. Especially if you add the knee-lift - warms me right up.
This works either before going to sleep or if you wake up cold.

One of the more obvious: wear dry socks and a wool type hat when in your sleeping bag (a significant amount of body heat is lost from a uncovered head.. and especially so for some of us dealing with hair loss)

My preferred method is just to yell at nonot and make sure he drags another tree or three across the fire.

@chumley
You and Bob both are pretty darn good at that, but I do agree that nonot-Steve is the : king :

Every now and then, Bear will give you some good tips, but you have to sift through the rest...the tips about warming your body up before getting in the sleeping bag certainly will make things more comfortable after those first few moments in there. But, you certainly don't want to get too much of a sweat going (on a cold night), as that will chill you out even further.

After a specific episode, Note To Self: Never jump is a pool of quicksand if there are paths that are 10 feet or more to the side that will safely take you around it ...

Perfect example! But what fun would that be?
Or claim to the audience "The most important thing is to stay dry!" Then...build a raft and float down a mountain stream a couple minutes later...

Some of those "extreme" outdoor shows get pretty stupid when you think about them. I especially like episodes of the barefoot guy hiking in the snow.

"Reality" TV as a whole should take a hike ... :SB:

Discovery channel came and filmed us. They were here for almost 4 hours, which came to 1+ minutes on the show.
Reality TV is very scripted.
