I have decided that my dog is an undue backpacking burden at this point. She can't keep up with me on miles anymore, and has gotten sick on me twice this summer, derailing a couple of trips. The decision to go it alone opens up many possibilities, one of which is the full length of the Mazatzal Mountains, or at the very least the full length of the Divide Trail. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction on this. I have a Subaru Outback and would like to find a shuttle from one end to the other (I can worry about that later). 2 questions:

1. could my car make it to the appropriate trailheads?
2. are there potential hazards/blockages that would prevent one from doing the full length trail?

1...a suby can generally make it to city creek and peeley unless its rained recently or its rutted or still slick.

2. the trail has some route finding issues but with gps or maps and knowing how to use them it shouldn't be a problem.

3. when are you planning on doing this? I may be able to help setup your shuttle as I go there from time to time.

Great. Thanks. I was thinking I would do this once the daytime temperatures go down a bit, and likely opening it up to a group trip that I would post here.

The trail goes into a burnt area near Mt Catherine and doesn't reappear until Bear Spring. From Bear Spring to the Y bar it is very burnt and the trail heavily eroded. Past this the next few miles are great. Never done the northernmost 10-15 miles though.

Bear Saddle or Horse Camp Seep would be a great location for a fall HAZfest ;)

start at doll baby ranch, up and over to horse seep, then camp. on to bear saddle then camp. on to little saddle mtn area, camp. hike out last day to sunflower. 4 fun days, can be done in 3.

Horse Camp Seep should have a small puddle to filter even in summer though I may be wrong. Bear Saddle has spring that's reliable year round.

Never seen Horse Camp dry but have seen it green and hard to filter :yuck:
