I have a one pair of boots that have speed laces. I prefer eyelets instead and I am debating dropping them off at the shoe shop to change over to eyelets. Anybody done this ?

Speedlaces? What exactly are those? But anyway, converting boots for eyelets is usually about 10 bucks if you take them in to your local tailor or western wear store-and they have worked out fine in my experience.

Speed laces are the hooks that the laces wrap around. They are great if you hike and camp in cold country where its hard to lace up boots with thick gloves or mittens on. I prefer to have eylets up to the second or third set and then speed laces from there. The speed laces at the top provide about three different lace configurations. The variance allows me to make more minute adjustments to the boots for comfort in varying circumstances.
Most shoe shops will convert speed laces to eylets for about a buck an eye, with a minimum charge of like ten dollars. whatever you decide to go with, try and pick a reputable shop, I had some laces changed a while back and teh shop put them way too close to the edge of the material, and a couple eyelets tore out after about a dozen uses. Best of luck to you and happy hiking.

Had the speed laces replaced with eyelets, two hikes and they work fine.
