this week's poll:
Do you typically eat less healthy after a hike?
i put yes, because i currently have a slurpee craving, which i try to limit to harder effort days
afterwards, i want salt, so my recovery snack is usually potato chips
mmm...sugar, salt and fat
on the other hand, i don't buy reese's pumpkins anymore

A barley sandwich or two (or three, or ...) and a tub of salty snacks is my preferred recovery regimen.

With Liz, we typically have a McD's hot n spicy, so yeah. Not as unhealthy as some other things, and we consider it nonlethal after hiking for a few hours.

The top half of that plate is healthy!
Your plate is my typical Saturday pre-hike Breakfast, plus some Cottage Cheese...
You don't eat breakfast until 9:50? I'm jealous

Oddly enough, I'm the opposite

Doughnuts, energy drink, soda and candy on the way to the trailhead, knowing I'll burn it off. By the time I'm done hiking, I'm usually feeling pretty good about myself and try to ride that wave as long as possible

by eating healthier but it always wears off ;)

after a shorter dayhike, I try to eat fairly healthy-- I might get some sugar and some salts in on the way home. After backpacking or a 20+ mile day I eat what I want

I haven't eaten meat since 2000 so that keeps fast food out of my options.

It's always amazing that a vegan can have a wild side to mastication.

Will usually stop by a gas station and buy a Dr Pepper and a candy bar for the drive home. Once I'm home I will recover with 12 oz curls.

I find the varying opinions on, "healthy eating", amusing, but I consider myself to eat healthy all the time, and make no exceptions for hiking or not. I tend to eat more after a longer hike, and I prefer to eat more fat. After one of my recent long hikes, a nice bison steak and 2 organic hot dogs were enjoyable. A don't eat grains, for the most part, and don't like sugar, can't enjoy dairy due to the protein, so fast food is also out. However, with American restaurants of any kind, not eating grains, dairy, and limiting sugar and not liking soda, that tends to mean you can't eat at most places.
