My boss says, "what day is it?" I look over at my HAZ calendar and say Tues, Dec 3rd "A very special day in 1969" and my boss goes, "What?" I chuckle and then :)

Nope. They (Black Sabbath) came later, in the 70's. I don't care for really dark music, or third-rate guitarists. I like super-intellectual lyrics and great guitarists. Also, in general, I don't care for ultra-commercial stuff or pop. (Love the Beatles, though.) I liked the San Francisco sound--very, very creative. Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Quicksilver Messenger Service. I liked some of the British stuff, such as Eric Clapton's Cream, etc. Being a guitarist and singer, I also loved singer-songwriters: Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Tim Buckley, James Taylor, etc.

I don't care for heavy metal too much, or groups with no ultra-great guitar lead. I have no patience for boring musicianship. For instance, although I enjoyed Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Doors, both bands suffered for musicianship. Their lead musicians were okay, but not brilliant. I also like blues.

No, I said they came later on. Also, maybe too dark for me. Anyway, it was past when I quit listening. When Janis and Jimi and Jim died, (1970 & '71) I basically quit listening to rock for a long, long time. After that I mostly only listened to singer-songwriters, such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, etc. Then, in '78 I moved to Hawaii, and found out about Keola Beamer, Gabby Pahinui and the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole AKA "Izzy." Saw him live.) And so, I started playing slack key guitar. Then when I moved to Arizona in '86, I really didn't have a stereo for a very long time, and playing slack key just made me feel sad. Later on, we got some blues cassettes, and later on we got a CD player in the car, and we picked up a lot of old Grateful Dead concert CDs and some blues, and some of the singer-songwriters. Lately, I have kind of quit listening again, except on long car trips. I hate having music on in the house--always have, ever since I had kids. Makes me feel extremely anxious. I hate noise.
