Just wondering what types of food diabetics take on long hikes?

Type 1 or Type 2 diabetic? I think it makes a difference.

Personally (I'm Type 2), I eat all the calories I can stand. Hiking, I figure I need all I can get. I try  to eat healthy and not empty calories, but sometimes weight outweighs "proper".

My wife makes a mean granola. I added up the calories on an entire batch, and the total was over 12,000 calories! The ingredients are: old-fashioned oats, sunflower seeds, shredded coconut, slivered almonds, honey, brown sugar, cinnamon, and oil. I speak from experience. That stuff sticks to your ribs!

If I eat a bowl of that before heading out, I'm not hungry until noon!
