It's been 1year and 8 mos. since surgery and I have been hiking , but steeps are still difficult. I do not feel secure wandering out in the boonies solo, so if there is anyone having" on the fly" free weekdays now and then,please keep me posted. Interested in McDowells, Supes, Spur Cross,etc., Haven't attempted Camelback or Piewesta since injury, but may just take longer. I have stamina, but a bit of scardeycat now!

I hike just about every Monday, but not this Monday I need to start my Christmas shopping.

How did it happen that you broke your femur? Sounds pretty ughsome. Glad to hear you are on the mend!!

Really dumb thing...running over deep ditch at Papago; foot hit top of berm.slipped but spun me, dislocated leg and slammed down on top of opposite rocky berm; femur went into pelvis almost cut femoral artery; shattered due to twist, so not clean break; 11days in hosp; 6 mos. rehab and gym and walking. I thank God for my strength,otherwise this would've been impossible. Surgeon said my bones are rock and is amazed at this accident. Also amazed at record breaking recovery. I have a stryker titanium rod in there into my hip joint, so lost some flexiblity and have some nerve and muscle pain; he had to cut through my itb and lots of other stuff, so i will feel this for a while. Could've been worse; could've been my head or the possibility of a limp, not walking, etc. Very terrifying how fast life can change and you just have to get through whatever happens. :A1:

Oh, my goodness! That IS a life-changing thing! I am so very glad to hear you are on the mend and hiking again! (This story makes my issue with sore feet seem like a non-problem!)

Yikes! I'm glad you're able to get back out again and I hope you'll regain your full capability before long.
