Weekday construction from Clints Well to Mormon Lake Village for next 6 months - January 2014 through June 2014
A safety project to provide a clear zone on each side of Lake Mary Road has begun. Arizona Department of Transportation is administering a project to thin trees on Lake Mary Road starting from Clint’s Well to just south of Mormon Lake Road. The project is a total of 27 miles between mileposts 290 and 317 on both sides of the highway. Work will be during daylight hours Monday through Friday, and is anticipated to last approximately 6 months. Workers MAY have to close the road at times if they feel the trees they are felling pose a danger to highway motorists. Most of the tree removal will be chipped, and merchantable trees will be decked and hauled off. Please proceed with caution and obey all traffic signs.
This may affect those visiting the various trailheads in the upper West Clear Creek drainage this spring and early summer as well as where the AZT crosses the highway (jct of #29 Happy Jack and #30 Mormon Lake.)

Thanks for posting, I like camping and road bicycling that stretch of the road.

I'll be hosting a family reunion on Lake Mary Rd at the end of June. It's not that far out, but I was planning to some hikes out that way.

I think should extend that to HWY 87. Seems the narrowest parts of that road are past Mormon Lake.

I must admit that that produces a rather odd image... :)

?? Not sure what area you mean... I understood it that the work was going to start by Clint's Well (which last I knew was at AZ 87 on the east end of Lake Mary Road) and continue just about TO Mormon Lake Road.

And from what I recall when we drove it last September, I thought the road was exceptionally wide west of Mormon Lake, with nice wide paved shoulders for the tons of bicyclists that we saw.

I think that Highway 87 and Clints Well are one in the same (at least as far as this construction is concerned)

We'll move aside for passing cars. Maybe we can recover some of the cost by holding signs.

Yeah, I just read the ending location, Mormon Lake, and didn't process the start. They are working on the section that needs it.

That really brings back memories. I played a lot of street baseball and football. We used a real baseball, and the cars were foul territory.
