Visited REI and noted a new sleeping bag design by Sierra Design. Its called a backcountry bed, it features a large oval opening with a large oversize comforter that closes off the opening as this bag does not have zippers. Different rated bags that range from 600 to 800 dridown and some models are available online only.

You piqued my curiosity, so I looked at it on the Sierra Designs website. Interesting concept, I guess, although I found myself asking "what for?" Probably more comfortable, I guess.

For the price there are a lot lighter sleeping options with similar warmth ratings. Interesting concept.

I like what I see. :) I flip and flop all night long and in a mummy bag I tend to get all twisted up. This bag might help fix that :-k looks like I'll have to go to REI

I noticed the TNF bag we just started carrying at my store has a neat feature I like ... besides the regular zipper running all the way down one side, it also has a quarter zip on the other side - so you can unzip that and flop the top down freeing both arms for eating or reading or just to have more wiggle room or ventilation.

I had an Adventure 16 mummy bag (back in the 70's, when they made a lot of gear) with a baffled zipper around the foot so you could open it flat, and you could take a similar bag, put it on top and have a double bag, as well. But I liked the zipper foot because I like to have my feet outside of the bag a lot of the time. I currently have a Marmot Helium. I normally just open it up and put it over me like a blanket, unless it's very cold.
