Cold Saturday morning (Dec. 21)

Saturday is a definite go. I have no commitments - no pending projects (other than shopping for my wife's X-mass presents - which, unfortunately, means I need to stay at least semi-local) and a whole lot of hankerin' for a good hike.
I'm open to suggestions - the only thing I don't want to do is Flatiron. I haven't hiked in almost 2 months now and I need a warm up or two before I tackle anything big (a Superstition ridgeline is in the works for me sometime in late January though - never done it before so I'm very excited).
If I get any west side folks, I'm up for a Squaw Peak loop or something I'm less familiar with.
If there are any east side takers I'm game for Peralta or a Weaver's Needle something or other.
Let me know if there is any interest.

Hey olesma, or any interested, I'm doing the Go-John trail in the Cave Creek recreation area with a group from my church on Saturday. We're leaving the church parking lot at 67th ave and Happy Valley around 7:15 or so and then on to the trail. If you didn't want to drive all the way out west to the parking lot you could just meet us at the trailhead a little before or around 8.

I wanted to hit the trail at just after first light - say around 7:00 or so.

Sorry to talk like a newbie, and doubt if I will make it, but the "lincoln" parkinglot?

There's a parking lot at the NE corner of 32nd st and Lincoln for the Quartz Ridge and other trails trailhead. If it's full, then there's the parking lot across the street at the SW corner. It's a great, loop that I've grown to like.
Join us if you can.

Another great hike with Olesma. It was 41 ddegrees when we started. I got some decent pictures of some fog and other things on the trail, I'll post them later. We modified the loop, went clock-wise and took a different way back to the car.

Yep. Good stuff. But not hiking for 2 months, then doing a 7 mile loop will do a number on you. I'm a little stiff right now.
Next up - Peralta, with the cave alternate route next weekend. I'll post for it later.

Go-John was a nice hike! Excellent conditions. Could see snow on Four Peaks and other mtns in the distance. Started out cold, but everyone was well layered. Finished in less than two hours. It would have been nice to have a 300 mm zoom lens when I found this red bird sitting on a barrel cactus. I did take a picture and will post it sooner or later, but the bird is just a reddish dot; flew away when I tried to get closer.
Olesma, the hike next week sounds good.

Those are some nice shots. The sunrise is pretty good, and the other two are fairly good too. What's the deal with the one picture with the big goofy looking dude in the middle of it though? Nice way to ruin an otherwise nice photo.

Sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. Besides, I am sure everyone here is tired of seeing my and everyone else's pictures of ugly... er I mean handsome Hooli.
Beside which, it makes the landscape look nicer in the picture.

I can say in all honesty - he inherited my wife's good looks. Thank heaven.
