I would just like to take the time now to extend my gratitude to all of you HAZers out there. You have truly blessed my life during the past year. I remember how scary it was to make that initial post last April and submit some pics to get the free HAZ t-shirt. I had never in my life participated in a forum or a chat room. In fact, the thought of doing so bothered me. But I believe HAZ is different from all the hype you hear about online chat and game rooms and whatever other types of forums are out there. HAZ members have a common bond: their love for hiking. But what I have found is that this core group of HAZers are givers. They share their experience and knowledge of the hike with any who have the yearn to learn and adventure. When the Humphreys Hike fell through because of fire danger, GTG organized the HAZ 1st Annual Chille Shindig; great food, great stories. It was a pleasure to meet a lot of the faces behind the posts and I for one am looking forward to the 2nd. I have made some good freinds like GTG, Hooli, Olesma, Cakewalk and AZ Hiker96. I can't keep up with any of them, but they're very accommadating. Yes, for some of you who might have been wondering, Hooli is a friend. He just happens to be vulnerable to my graphic bouts of exploitation. I have learned to let some of the heated forum topics just play out and not offer my opinions, except to occaisionally add a little humor. Nothing deflates the serious stature of opposition better than laughter. I believe I have chilled some over the year and I feel different about certain issues that I wouldn't have had I not been involved with this forum and fellow partakers. I have learned just a little to give respect and that is a big thing for me. I better end this or someone like Teva will surely make a comment about yawning.

None of these things would have been possible for me to do had it not have been for the determination of one guy to make this more than just a hiking page in a cyber-cosmos littered with go-and-get-info-hike-sites. He has made it fun to partake. So to the elusive Teva; a big hats off and thank you.

And without further adieu, here is a digital Christmas greeting from my family to all of you:

I'm pretty sure that I can't say it any better than Stan. I also have to say that if you really want to read about my feelings concerning this site - just hark back to the Thanksgiving post.

It is pointless to reiterate everything Stan has said, and I agree with him wholeheartedly. This is a rare and excellent group of people, of which I am honored to be a part of. Long may the posting continue!

Season's greetings to all. I am religious by nature, and this time of year is very special for me, and I hope it is for all of you as well - regardless of religious affiliation or affinity.

Thanks for all the support and friendship.

I have to say you all seem like neat people. I had another group that I was a part of but I just got permabanned  It is nice to be in a forum that basically has no politics :) Or at least does not have politics as an objective....

I wish I would meet some of you so I can be sure you are not more than pixels though

Oh, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

WOW... I don't have the capabilities or know-how to make my own Holiday Greeting card, but I do have the capability to wish every single one of you the best of holidays filled w/ family, friends, good health, lots of wealth, love that fills you up inside like a cup of hot cocoa topped w/ marshmallows while sitting in front of the fireplace watching "Its a Wonderful Life", and a New Year filled w/ awesome hikes, unforgettable experiences, and terrific hiking partners!!

And, I do have the know-how to appreciate this as an extraordinary site created and maintained by an exceptional person for people like me. I feel truly blessed each and every day, and I just want to say Thank You. Not only to Joe, but to everyone who has extended so much to me in the forms of knowledge, wisdom, kindness, laughter, and friendship. You are all an incredible group, and I feel lucky to be a part of it.

'Happy Holidays, and a Wonderful New Year to ALL!! Thank You...

Nah, Stan talkin' sappy ain't got nothin' to do with eggnog; poor guy lives with somethin' like a zillion women; his voice ain't been heard in that household in so long they think he's Marcel Marceau incarnate. He gets out, you can't shut him up by yawning or any other method known....though I've been thinking of several I'd like to try

Woa! Hoolie takes the gloves off...

I'm laying 3:1 odds on Stan (his Photoshop skills are simply dominating)...any takers?

Look who's talking. How about, let's see some action. Until then I'll be yawning Marcel Marceau style.

You got perma-whatted?? What site did you belong to? That's kinda freaky I'd say.
Permanently banned, never to be able to post there again, at least under that name....

It was an off topic board for a game I used to play. They had a large contingent of posters that were anti-american and some of them believe that we deserved what happened to us on 9/11. I guess I violated the "Show respect at all times" part of the ROC... Sorry, I cannot respect anyone with that opinion... :x

You should get a job with Hallmark writing greeting cards.

I couldn't express things better in a million years.

Tis the Christmas morn' and all throughout the house, our thoughts are filled with hikes!
Hikes we've done, hikes we hope to do and hikes we can only dream of doing.

We hope your upcoming year is filled with much joy nad happiness, and expecially the joy and happiness of hiking as often and as far as your time and energy will allow.

We hope all of your trails are rewarding and satisfying. We hope your hiking weather is always beautiful and picturesque. We hope your hiking partners are delightful and a joy to be with on the trail. May your journeys to the trailheads always be safe and may you return home with a pack full of memories. May all your hiking photos turn out just the way you want them to be and may all your friends and family support and appreciate your walks across the horizons.

Today, especially, we hope Santa shimmied down your chimney with a sack full of new boots, GPS devices, featherweight, waterproof digital cameras, gore-tex whatevers and gorp for all.

So, ho, ho, ho, may the season's spirit be upon you and yours and may you soon set foot again on the trail of your dreams!

And finally, thanks for the beautiful gifts HAZ has given us throughout the past year! Viva HAZ!

John and Susun
