Hello all. I finally got moved to Arizona three weeks ago. Been to Sedona and Canyonlands in Utah so far. Headed to fish creek canyon in superstitions tomorrow. I wanted to bring my dslr and was wondering what the water levels ate like. Will I be required to swim or wade above the waist? If so I better leave it home..

You do not have to get wet unless you want to hurry through. Are you making a loop via the road into the old Tortilla ranch site or just doing an up and back from the bridge?

Thanks for the reply - just gonna take 88 to the bridge, park past and walk back and hke, I guess on the South side (upstream) but maybe on the north, I've read different suggestions on different websites

So just up and back not a loop

Up & back is what you want for this time of year anyhow. The loop and downstream would be too hot for most.
SuperstitionGuy is spot on.

Some of the workarounds are tedious. You can always turn around when you've had enough. Plenty of trees for shady breaks in the first mile if you get tired too.

Park at the bridge, not further down the road. Just be careful and report back the water conditions....

Awesome. Will do on reporting the conditions. But the couple of pages I looked at indicated I would drive over the bridge and then there would be a few parking spots there. Is that not accurate?

You can park on either side of the bridge or a half mile or so past but I always park on the east side of the bridge if no one has already done so. Hiking upstream from the large parking area a half mile or so past is not all that interesting.

Having never been there before, I have no frame of reference. The water was about ankle deep immediately at the bridge. There was one spot where it was about waste deep. I'd say on average it was about knee deep

But was it flowing or just pools?

Sorry I have been busy all week with job hunting. Just turned my mind back to hiking. Yes it was flowing continuously and audibly. Sorry again so late in response

Has anyone happened to notice recently what the water levels are like in Fish Creek Canyon? (near/upstream of the bridge on the Apache Trail, specifically) Dry, stagnant, or flowing? Hoping to do some swimming up there soon, if there is any water left. Thanks!

@PrestonSands
Unless it's rained since March 2nd it'll be a shallow swim
