A young woman traveling the West has left paintings on rocks and rock art panels in numerous National Parks, and documented it all via Instagram. She is not yet in custody. Here's the article:

It's the kind of uncivil discourse, personal insults, and salty language missing from the HAZ forum. ;)

Acrylic can be very weather resistant. I know of some acrylic murals that lasted for decades. It will eventually start to peel, but the peelings will last pretty much forever.

I wonder if the crazy person defending her idiotic graffiti and her mother are online doppelgangers or the real McCoy. I really really hope that the posters are the perpetrator and her mother. Hopefully both of them will come to understand that their opinions about the value of certain laws and standards of decency should more closely resemble those of society-at-large, not to mention the law, rather than what they wish were true. What a pathetic way to announce oneself to the world.

Anyway, I hope California condors that have been defaced with acrylic paint get to eat the perpetrator's liver while she's chained to a rock that she tried to roll to the top of a mountain in vain.

I might have to check your gear for paint brushes and paint, before you enter my beloved Supes this weekend [-X ;)

Toney's cabin is rather drab, but it does not need a touch up! ;)

There are forums for artistic expression in national parks because national parks inspire artistic creativity. These images are outside that forum and outside the law.

Sometimes instead of defacing natural resources you just need a friend. Give friendofThundergod a call next time.

They will find this idiot. And they will prosecute her to make sure she's not regarded by others as heroic, or "funny" (which she seems to think she is).

Her attorney will argue for probation. The government will argue for some federal pen time by adding up the man-hours and materials needed to clean up her garbage.

I think you hold our government agencies in higher regard than what reality has shown in the past.

See: People who start forest fires. People who destroy ruins. Etc.

Slap on the wrist. :M2C:

I don't agree. Sentences for environmental crimes on federal land are set by Congress for the most part, not by agencies. And personally I don't think they are weirdly low compared to other types of crimes. I love the outdoors but vandalizing a park is not murder. The public hasn't demaned harsher sentences so Congress hasn't set them.

A year in the clink still sounds pretty devastating to me, if you're a self-entitled hipster who thought she was only doing something that would make people giggle.

See also the tin pot politician in Globe who bulldozed a mile of an historic trail (Six Shooter I believe) so he could water is paltry herd of cattle, and got off scott-free.
