Is the reavis trailhead #109 accesible with a passenger car ( subaru)?

There is a North and South trailhead. Car access changes during the year as storms alter the road. Currently I "think" the north is accessible and the south high clearance is best. The forest roads are typically graded yearly.

I've never had trouble getting to the north TH in a rental car.

Maybe you should get a rental car if you're worried and financially-able. In the immortal words of my late uncle "Always pay the deductible. It's party time!"

Driving my own vehicle, I would not attempt the southern TH in a car. The northern TH - I might think about it, as Joe said - it depends how recently it was graded and how recently it rained.

Subaru would be better if it has more than normal ground clearance.

Thanks, I have been to Rogers trough many times with my jeep but the hard times forced me to sell her. I would not go in from the south with my car, but I never been over to the north side. I'am planning a overnite trip for next month, maybe I'll have a new jeep by then or its subaru baja racing time.

For what it's worth, I took a '99 Taurus station wagon up to the north trailhead and never really felt worried. The only thing about that road: it's narrow, so having 2 cars go past one another could be tricky in spots.

I'm heading to the Reavis Ranch TH this week and wondered if a passenger car could negotiate the FS road.

Access via the north is never a problem.

Forest Road 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

FS 212 was fine for sedans back in September 2014. Haven't seen it washed out in recent years.

I was there in November in a high clearance 4WD and thought it seemed ok for lower clearance vehicles. Just wanted to check if there was more current info. Thanks, Joe.

Unless you have to drive back to AJ in the dark in a big ford 4WD van....gotta love those narrow Apache Trail roads.

Unless your big Ford van doesn't have headlights (or an engine?), I think driving back to AJ at night should pose no problems. Hundreds of people do it at all hours of every day.

I did the drive back in November of which I speak, praying that I wouldn't meet another vehicle coming the other way as I headed up the long narrow hill. (Fish creek hill) I've driven many such roads in my big rig, but I'd only been on this road on the way to FS 212, so it was a bit unfamiliar, especially in the dark. And I am thinking it may be time to get some headlights for Old Bessy.

Drove the road in my VLC (Very Low Clearance) Saturn Ion with no problems - it had recently been graded. Lots of tourists driving on the Apache Trail Friday afternoon when I headed back to AJ after my Reavis Ranch/Circlestone/Mound Mountain trip.

I have been told by a friend of mine who works for the FS, that access to the Reavis TH from the Roosevelt side has been re-opened. I believe 60 inches max on the vehicle width is what they said could make it through the gate. 212 got a nice clean up including a fresh grading. Sucks it's the long way around but at least we don't have to hike up 212 anymore.

I'm assuming every one knows you can't get to Reavis north from Tortilla Flats. You have to come from the other direction. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I was wanting to go hike the Reavis Ranch trail. I hate the road coming from the south (Rogers Trough), but just noticed the 88 is closed from canyon to apachy lake. Google says we can go around via Roosevelt or up through Globe and drop in via the 88. How is that part of the road? Is it accessible via 2WD sedan like the first part of 88 (pre wash out) or does that top part of 88 get pretty gnarly (like many other roads in the area).

It's fine to drive but you'll want to note that you can't get all the way to the trailhead that way either; they have the road closed at the marina to regular passenger vehicles. You can park there and hike up the road or hike up the wash there to the trailhead , it'll just add some distance and elevation to the start of your journey (several extra miles if hiking the road, maybe 1 or so if you hike up off trail)

Thanks, I didn't catch that secondary closure in looking at the notices. Looks like I will want to find another hike.
