I'm looking for a good day hike around the town of Jerome.
Does anyone know or recommend a hike in that area?
Thanks!!

The Woodchute Mtn Trail is probably your best bet.
Should be on HAZ as its a popular, long-standing trail.
(Edited addition: Yes, it is on the Trail DEX and it's an EXCELLENT writeup! Also two followup notes. You really can't ask for much more on this trail. The info here is as good as it gets! Since you're new to this site, simply click on the "W" in the alphabetical list above. Then be sure to click on the 2nd page of the list to find Woodchute.)
Also, just goofing off up on top of Mingus Mountain qualifies as a neat-o day hike, too. There's a nice campground up there but it's probably not open. Called Potato Patch. Check the Prescott NF website for details. Down below Jerome there's a lot of trails in the Dead Horse State Park area. Don't be turned off by the name--it's just an Arizona name. Some kids named it.
Woodchute gets its name from the mining days when they built, what else?, a wood chute to funnel firewood down to the Jerome area. As far as we can tell, we think they actually deforested that mountain back then. The vegetation has come back pretty good in the last 100 years.

Welcome to HAZ dalgettm. And I would agree with montezumawell about Woodchute Trail. It is my favorite get out of Prescott Valley, do not want to travel far, 30-45 minute drive, trail. In addition to that, should you visit Prescott, the Spurce Mountain Look-out Trail, is another great trail.

Dead Horse State Park is also a great place to Mtn. Bike numerous trails. I also took my street bike and rode to Camp Verde and to the fish hatchery, but lots of traffic.
