The Rep's weekly hike

The article referenced above appeared in the Thursday 'REP,' a tabloid format weekly supplement to The Arizona Republic that is heavy on food, drink and nightlife. Reporter John Stanley writes a weekly 'column' of sorts that describes and/or reviews a hike somewhere in Arizona. His trail topics have ranged far and wide from Coyote Buttes and their famous 'Wave' to the nearby stalwart Wind Cave Trail. We find his writing very informational and often outright captivating. A few months ago he wrote a splendid article on the renaming of 24 Mile Rapid in Grand Canyon to 'Georgie Rapid.' Classic journalism!

It's tough to bring much of any 'human interest' angles in the small space Stanley is alloted in the weekly Rep but he does a consistently credible job and, as far as we're concerned, his articles are the ONLY reason to read the Rep. Otherwise, it would head straight for the recycle bin. If you haven't noticed Stanley's weekly trail articles, we highly recommend them. Many of them are what we call 'clipper-savers' that get filed for future reference. Good stuff and thanks for putting up the URL so others can readily access the article!

I read the article also. I thought it was put together very well. The Republic an article on 12/10/2001 about hiking being the 'new singles bar' back in December. Of course the highlights were Squaw Peak and Camelback. Never the less, it's still interesting to see information about hiking published.
