The date is set for September 14, 2015. I'm planning to head southbound. I'm from Tucson and will have someone ghosting me the northern half of the trail. The quickest way you can reach me is mptattwo@gmail.com ...looking forward to get on the trail!

Hey, I'm Nate. I'm from Sioux Falls, SD. I hope to hit the AZT in September. I was looking to start sooner but I'm not under any time restrictions. Starting mid-way through the month wouldn't be bad. I'll try to shoot you an email this week.

Hi, Wyoming here.

Goliath and I have rough plans to depart SOBO sometime in early Sept (set at 1 Sept right now). There is also a guy named Steve who's journal is on TrailJournals who is intending to start early Sept.

Hey Southbounders, check this out, from the ATA webpage!

Wanted: Southbound Thru-Hiker

If you are planning a thru-hike of the Arizona Trail this year, the ATA may have a job for you! We are looking for an individual to collect trail data while walking between Utah and Mexico. Duties include collecting photographs and GPS coordinates of all road crossings and signs encountered along the trail. A monetary stipend and geocoded camera will be provided, along with a box of AZT goodies (socks, T-shirt, guidebook, etc.). If you are interested, or know someone who may be, please send an email to the ATA’s Executive Director: matthew@aztrail.org.

Goliath and I (Wyoming) have sort of settled on departing Sept 4th. We decided on that date to avoid hitting the Grand Canyon on Labor Day weekend. Seemed like a good idea as that place will be crazy then.

I had to cut my last hike short and only got to Jacob's Lake from the Utah border. However This coming Sunday 8/30 I'll be heading back up to JL and will be solo hiking sobo early Monday morning 8/31 and ending on the South Rim. Hope the recent rains have left us some fresh aqua

I'll be flying into Phoenix around 15th or 16th of Sept. And start walking south either the 17th or 18th. I'm not sure at this point if I will be starting at Utah Border, or Flagstaff. The logistics of getting to Utah might be more effort than what I want to deal with. But I am still trying to make it work. Flagstaff works for a rental car drop off, and still gives me 6 weeks of hiking.

If anyone has thoughts on the best way to the Utah TH from Flagstaff, I would grateful for your comments. I know there are shuttles listed on AZT website, and I've made some inquires....it'll cost $200+ to get to Page from Flagstaff, which is significant.

Perhaps I'll meet you on the trail,
BA.

For me the easiest way to get to the northern trailhead is flying into Page. It is pretty affordable. Then either a taxi to HouseRockRoad (about $2per mile, they said), then walk/hitchhike or get a transfer by Paria Canyon Adventure Ranch. We'll see. Still working on start date...

@Baked Alaskan
For what it's worth, a shuttle from Flagstaff to the south rim of the Grand Canyon by Arizona Shuttle is only $28. That would give you another 100 miles of trail.

Hey Thanks for the information.....It never entered my mind to consider this option. I have my plane ticket for arrival into Phoenix on the 16th. Will spend the next day getting acclimated....Fairbanks is 435' elev., and possibly staging water. So I'm planning on starting after 3:00 the afternoon of the 18th from Grand Canyon Village.

. . . and Phoenix is 1120 (at the airport) so don't expect too much acclimation. South Rim is 6,900, that change might be noticeable.

Enjoy the hike!

As mentioned, I'll be flying into Phoenix tomorrow, the 16th, and spend the next day staging water drops from GCNP to Flagstaff. The 18th I'm traveling by Arizona shuttle to Maswik Lodge, and I'm hopeful to be on trail before 4:00. My first zero day will be in Flagstaff a week later. If a member should need water staged in the area mentioned, feel free to contact me on this website. I'll give it a glance before I get on my way. I'll have a rental for a day and a half, which I'll drop off in Flagstaff.
