Has anyone converted the data book or water report so that the mileage reads from North to South?

Prior to posting, it is an excel spreadsheet. I suppose it could be manipulated but I'm not sure it would make much sense without line-by-line editing.

The mileage in the data book matches the waypoints in the passage GPX data so except for order, I doubt anyone would want to mess with the distance portion.

I always wished I could just get the spreadsheet instead of a PDF of it. That way I could more easily combine it with the water report. Along those lines, it would be nice to get the water report as a spreadsheet too. I am both happy and grateful that they are maintained and available though.

Well I sat down and spent all day yesterday creating one in excel or really just reversing the one they already have. If anybody wants a copy send me your email address.

Another way to do this, once you have the PDF converted to Excel and the mileage columns are fully editable in one sheet, is to add a new column to the right of the current Mileage S>N column. Name this new column "Distance from Utah." Then in the first entry, Mexican border, enter the following formula without quotes and clicking on the cell described in the brackets: ' =800.6-[value of cell immediately to left] ' The result for this cell will be 800.6 (which is 800.6 - 0 in this case, the distance from Utah to Mexico). Finally copy this cell, select all of the cells beneath it by clicking on the first one and dragging down - the entire column's worth of empty cells, in other words - and then paste. The entire column will now be populated with distances from Utah for each Databook entry.

I would probably leave the passage mileages alone, since that would require having to repeat the above process with a different total passage mileage for every passage.

Yes, the chart now reads from bottom to top for someone heading south, but it's hard to accuse anyone of being lazy when they're already out the door and hiking.

That is pretty much what I did and it sure makes it easier to plan. Again if anyone is interested in it send me your email and I will send it to you.
