Update: Original Dates Cancelled. Moved up to 10/10 weekend!
Join in on a big weekend backpacking trip to the heart of the Galiuros.
Spend a minimum of one night on either side of the 10-mile hike in and out, or add a day and spend some time exploring the rich history of the area.
Update on the schedule that I'll be taking on this.
I'll be heading out from the valley early Friday morning and hiking to the garden Friday afternoon.
Saturday I'll be taking the 12 mile round-trip to the mine/cabin/shootout site as a leisurely day hike.
Sunday morning I'll hike out and drive home later in the day.
I know others may not be able to take Friday off and won't arrive until Saturday. That's absolutely fine and you are still welcome to attend.
Because Powers Garden is in the Galiuro Wilderness this event will be limited to 15 people to remain in compliance with wilderness group size guidelines.
The loop is made up by hiking the following trails, but an out-and-back option exists to avoid climbing over the 7000 foot east divide:
Power's Garden Loop
East Divide
Tortilla Trail
Powers Garden Trail
Corral Canyon
It's the end of October and elevations range from 5000 to 7000 feet. This will very likely result in some chilly nights.

@te-wa I think I'll take my chances with a warm October afternoon at 5 or 6k ft. Because I'd rather it not be much cooler at night than these folks had to endure

Any chance this will move to any other weekend?

@nonot Only other option would be the following weekend, but that's Halloween, and I figured that keeps a lot of people in town with family obligations. But if there are people who want to go I'd be willing to entertain the option of pushing it back a week. (Plus a week later it would probably be much less hot during the day ;) )

Halloween at the site of the deadliest shootout in Arizona history? Sounds pretty perfect to me.

After further consultation, this has in fact moved back to Halloween weekend.
October weather can vary wildly, but the
averages for this elevation at this time of year are highs of about 70 and lows in the 30s.

Prepare for hunters and activity at the Garden itself, some colors and it can be pretty dry in there that time of year. Dependable water at the Garden, usually, Corral has been dry even on a climb up the canyon. However some of the rock bound pools hold some water there for a while. There is a pretty good spring up in Field canyon. Mud spring will be fine but is usually too soon or late to do much good for tanking up. Have fun, if I am bored I mite show up, or not.

The shoot out did not occur at the Garden, it was at the mine and cabin several miles south of the garden.

It is heartening at the movie screenings to see decedents from both sides of the issue sharing in the story.
