What is this, a tag line on the news? "Stay tuned for more details"
Bitten by a dog? a bee? a rattlesnake, another person?

I'd say 85% chance he was messing with it. The speckleds up there have ZERO interest in you. They are the tamest rattlesnakes that I have ever seen.

We saw a speckled yesterday on South Mountain. Could not believe how mellow it was.

He could have wearing earbuds and not paying attention.

@chumley
this was the most detail I've found so far
the north side of south mountain is a pretty big area
heard it might have been on Mormon trail?
I was on Geronimo yesterday and the only clue of the commotion was a helicopter going over the eagle pass area
would like to see an accurate follow-up on the incident

Every time I see a news story that includes

-> Helicopters
-> South Mountain
-> Man in his 50's

I fear for the Turtle.

Gosh, he looks familiar, but I just can't place him...Almost looks like a guy I've Canyoneered with....May not have been a Speckled. There are 4 Species up there at least. Speckled, Tiger, Black-tailed and Western Diamondback....Mormon Trail? My Money's on a Black-tailed. They seem to like that Area....

I was out doing National and Mormon Loop yesterday. But I was long gone by 10 a.m., so I didn't see any of the comotion. I've only had a single encounter with a rattler on SM, very brief and the guy slithered off before I got a real good look at him.

That's what I mean...I actually recognize Canyoneers' Faces better, when they have a Helmet on.....If they just show up somewhere without it, I may not recognize them.... :lol:

Little fact about me: I rarely find snakes at South Mtn. Everyone else seems to find them, even if they don't want to. I've only seen one blacktailed, one tiger rattler, and one night snake.

Do these incidents happen often? They don't, right?

Nope, this website tends to attract a lot of people that go off trail and to places that the general public will never go to. In the 22 years HAZ has been around nobody here has been bit.
