November thru-hike?

I just got off the AT. Didn't finish my thru-hike this year. Made it about 60% and then got shin splints. Gonna retry in February, but need something to do until then. Would an AZT SOBO starting by November 1st be a crazy thought? I know that's a little on the late side, but I wondered if I could make it work.

Also, for those of you that have done both trails, what are the biggest fundamental differences between the two that I really need to be aware of to successfully hike the AZT? Is there a good book that explains tactics? Also, is there a good guidebook, like the AWOL book for the AT?

Thanks in advance, everyone!

I think it's doable but if some storms came in you could end up in a lot of snow. It also could get very cold at the higher elevations such as through the Santa Catalinas and the Huachucas. There is a guidebook available. Check out the Arizona Trail Association website, it lists several resources

It's rather lonely out on the AZT. I started about 3 weeks ago and so far have met one other Thru-hiker and that was north of the Grand Canyon. Not many dayhikers either. Just around Flagstaff and GC. Great trail though.
Also there is the Arizona Trail app which works offline if you have a smartphone. It has been a great help when I'm not sure if I'm still on the right trail. Can only recommend it.

Hey good luck out there! Where are you currently at? Me and some of my buddies hit up a segment or two of the AZT every month. Saw a couple thru hikers this spring.

Fortunately, it's not for the masses . . . .
