Trail to the trunk of Elephant Butte?

Trying to find the description for a trail that leads to the trunk of Elephant Butte, but I am not having luck. My Mother hiked it years ago so I am only getting a vague description, but it starts near the beginning of the Spur Cross Conservation area and heads North West toward the nose of Elephant Butte. She said there is some rock art along the trail as well.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Yeah, I think that's it. I guess it is Elephant Mountain, not Butte. Is there a description for it?

So we decided not to summit Elephant Mountain yet.

Today we started at the Spur Cross trail head and took that till we reached the second intersection with the Tortuga loop. Then we took Tortuga until we reached the Elephant Mountain trail and followed it for a ways before turning back somewhere just before it started to loop around toward the summit. Then we back tracked till we got to the Dragonfly trail and went down into the Jewel and then on back to the parking area. Just under 7 miles round trip. It was a nice hike.

sweet

It would be helpful to the community & future hikers to post a triplog ( post > post triplog )

It's nice to have a reason to come back. Unfinished business has always been a great inspiration to me.

Yeah, we will return to do the whole EM loop soon. It will probably kick my pumpkin the first time, but that's ok.
